NF HERO: VICKI K. WITT
"Our mom, Vicki K Witt died of NF-1 on November 30, 2006. Throughout her battle with this disorder we consulted a number of renowned Arizona doctors, none of which could speak with confidence about the disorder or its preferred treatment options.
Over time, our mom developed an uncommon form of NF-1, the development of MPNSTs. Research indicates that only a small fraction of all NF-1 patients develop this infrequency, which lead to even more unanswered questions. This sarcoma data is seemingly invaluable for research, however as a result of unacquainted local specialists, this data was made to appear routine and was eventually discarded. With a local clinic, this valuable data could have been identified, preserved, and used for research benefiting others living with this advanced form of NF-1. Overall, the absence of local NF-1 informed medical professionals left our family feeling discouraged and left out. A local clinic with NF-1 specialists, clinical trials, and research studies would have undoubtedly had a profound impact on our lives."
